Police are working to track down a man who tried to steal more than $500 worth of meat, seafood and coffeemakers from a town of Chenango supermarket.

Authorities say the incident happened around eleven o'clock on the morning of Saint Patrick's Day at the Weis Markets store at 1290 Upper Front Street.

According to a Broome County Sheriff's Office investigator, the man filled a shopping cart with an assortment of items from the meat and seafood departments. He also planned to take two single-cup coffee brewers.

The would-be thief left the stuff behind when he was confronted by Weis employees.

The investigator told WNBF News that the merchandise was recovered and was not damaged.
