A Binghamton man has been arrested after electronics items were stolen from vehicles in a downtown city-owned parking ramp.

Authorities say 18-year-old Kyle Nowalk of Crandall Street was charged with petit larceny.

According to Binghamton police, Nowalk was taken into custody by patrol officers in front of the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel on Water Street, just north of the garage. The arrest occurred around 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

Someone told police that a man had been in the parking ramp rummaging through vehicles.

When officers searched Nowalk's backpack, they found "numerous items including electronics."

Police then discovered several parked vehicles in the garage had been entered. Some of the cars had glove compartment damage.

Some vehicle owners were contacted but others could not be reached. Police believe more thefts in the ramp have been undiscovered or unreported.

Nowalk was issued a Binghamton city court appearance ticket and released.
