Super-Stuffed Stromboli (Prep. time 10 minutes plus 20 minutes baking time.  Serves 2-3 * The pizza dough ball is enough to make 3 Stromboli)

1/3 of a 1 lb. pizza dough ball

2 slices (per Stromboli) Mortadella

3 slices (per Stromboli) sandwich pepperoni

3 slices (per Stromboli) prosciutto

1 C. provolone, sliced

1 C. shredded mozzarella (or slices)

1 cloves diced garlic

1/3 C. sliced onion

1 tbl. oregano

2 tbl. olive oil

Sprinkling of grated parmesan

side serving of spaghetti or marinara sauce

Preheat oven to 375.  Roll out pizza dough into a long oval, taking into account the width of the slices of meat. If you’re not into a lot of bread on the ends, roll out the two ends very thin. Spread 1 tbl. olive oil and the diced garlic over the entire surface. Sprinkle with oregano. Since what is the bottom now will be the top, keep in mind what is going to take the most time to cook when layering your ingredients.  I start with mozzarella and provolone followed by the meat slices and onions.  Fold the ends up and firmly pinch the edges.  Fold the long sides together and firmly pinch to seal, again paying special attention to the ends.  You may want to dampen the edges with wet fingers to help the seal.  Place seam side down on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.  Cut slits in the top to allow steam to escape. Rub the remaining olive oil over the top or, for a darker brown and shiny finish, you can brush the top with egg wash (beaten egg and a little milk).  Sprinkle grated parmesan on top and bake for about 20 minutes, rotating ½ turn during baking.  When golden brown, the Stromboli should sound almost hollow when tapped.  Allow to stand for at least five minutes after coming out of the oven before slicing.  While cooling, warm up the spaghetti sauce for dipping.
