A SUNY Cortland student from Binghamton is recovering from relatively minor injuries after a 500 pound tree fell on her.

Cortland firefighters and police rescued 21 year old Jennifer Kipp was on her way to class shortly before 9 a.m. October 30 when high winds uprooted the tree on Prospect Terrace and it toppled on top of her.

Kipp was able to reach her cell phone and called a friend who summoned emergency responders.

The Cortland Senior told reporters she had the hood on her sweatshirt over her head and had her head down against the wind-blown rain and was not aware that the tree was coming down.

Fire officials say the woman was very lucky to have only suffered minor injuries.
