Officials at SUNY Cortland are telling their neighbors they're sorry for the celebrating that got out of control following the Cortland/ Ithaca College Cortaca football game over the weekend.

The university issued a statement Sunday saying officials were aware SUNY Cortland students were among those involved in fights and other disruptions following the Red Dragons' victory over Ithaca College.

Residents and students reported bottles and branches being thrown at some revelers, prompting Cortland Police to summon assistance from surrounding law enforcement agencies, including some in neighboring counties.

There were no serious injuries but several citations were written and a large amount of trash was strewn around neighborhoods near the campus.

Dozens of students looked to make some amends for the poor behavior by picking up litter, bottles and cans Sunday.
