A SUNY Broome Community College freshman is dead following a crash in Chenango County.

Chenango County Emergency Services officials say Miranda Gifford of Rome was involved in a two vehicle crash on South Canal Street in the Village of Oxford at around 12:30 p.m. October 30 and died Wednesday, November 1.

Officials said Gifford’s vehicle veered into the opposite lane and hit an on-coming service truck.

The driver of the truck and his passenger were not injured.

Gifford was airlifted to Upstate University Medical Center in Syracuse where she passed away late on November 1.

Gifford was a Homeland Security major and played on BCC’s softball and basketball teams.

The college said they were not aware of funeral arrangements at this time but counseling for the campus community is being made available.  Anyone who wants to talk to Counseling Services can go to Student Services Room 210.  An appointment can also be made by calling 778-5210.  Employee Assistance Program representatives are available for faculty and staff at 800-327-2255.
