SUNY Broome Community College is seeking academically-gifted high school students for a new program that will enable them to earn an associate degree in one year instead of two.

The One Year Associate in Arts Degree Program will be launched next fall.

Michael Kinney, SUNY Broome's dean of liberal arts, says it's designed for students who are "very high achievers."

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Kinney said students who are considered gifted and "highly motivated" should consider applying for the new program.

Students who want to be accepted into the program must meet several requirements in order to be considered.

Kinney said the program will provide a high level of "intellectual challenge" to those chosen to participate.

The application deadline for the program is March 1. More information is available on the SUNY Broome website.
