The National Weather Service says severe thunderstorms are possible today with showers and storms expected to develop starting to the west of Broome and Tioga Counties.

Forecasters say there is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms with damaging winds as part of the system.

The National Weather Service says, roughly, the storm threat would be late morning in the western part of the forecast area then mid afternoon for the eastern areas, possibly lingering into late afternoon toward the catskills and Poconos.

Another major concern is the heat.  NOAA says the combination of heat and humidity will push the heat index into the lower to mid 90s, especially in urban areas.
