Broome County Sheriff’s officials say they have a suspect in custody but a stolen rare dog is still missing.

Officials say late in the evening of June 10 there was a report of a disturbance on Sunset Drive in the Town of Dickinson in a dispute over the expensive dog.

The owner of the rare ‘Blue’ American Bulldog stud, Umar Abdur-Razzaaq, told the Deputy 65 year old Edward Panus of Afton was an acquaintance who liked the dog and was upset over the breeder’s plans to sell the canine.  The owner says Panus came over to visit Mighty Destro, suddenly grabbed the dog and rushed it to his car.

Abdur-Razzaaq tried to stop the car when Panus allegedly brandished a small pocket knife.

At around 5 a.m. June 12 Panus was found at the Greater Binghamton Airport and stopped by a Deputy and Broome County Security before he could get on a plane to Alaska.

The dog was not with him.

Panus is charged with felony grand larceny and misdemeanor menacing.

Authorities say suspect is not cooperating. They think the dog may be in the Afton/ Harpursville area.

Anyone with information about the location and/or health of the dog is urged to call the Sheriff’s Tip Line at (607) 778-1196.
