Residents have to register if they want to comment to the New York State Office of People with Developmental Disabilities about the transition process following the closing of the Broome Developmental Center.

State officials are taking comments during a video conference from 3 to 5 p.m. October 27 in Classroom 6 on the second floor of the Broome Developmental Center on Glenwood Road in the Town of Dickinson.

The local facility is slated to close in the spring.

Residents sign in by email at transformation.panel@opwdd.ny.gov. Testimony can also be emailed to that address if someone wanted to comment but could attend the video conference.

There has been a lot of concern after the state announced plans to close three developmental centers by early 2017, especially regarding public safety and the safe transition of clients from institutionalized to community-based programs.
