The New York State Public High School Athletic Association baseball championships were held yesterday (Saturday) in Broome County.  Five different venues were used for the different classifications.  Much of the excitement was focused on Binghamton University where the Class AA semi-finals and championship rounds were played.  In the first semi-final Shenendehowa defeated West Islip 3-0.  The spotlight was on Shen's starting pitcher Ian Anderson.  Just a couple of days earlier he was selected third overall in the Major League Draft by the Atlanta Braves.  He did not disappoint as he went the distance allowing five hits and no runs to get the win.

Ian's brother Ben who caught both games was also a draft pick. He went in the 26th round as a Toronto Blue Jays selection.  He also is scheduled to attend and play baseball at Binghamton University where he will join the Bearcats who went to the NCAA Regionals earlier this month.

In the AA championship Shenendehowa topped Webster Schroeder 7-6.  Shen came from behind to win the seventh inning.
