January is National Stalking Awareness Month.

Speaking on the Southern Tier Close Up on WNBF January 19th, Crime Victims Assistance Center Director, Raini Baudendistel tells host, Kathy Whyte that the nature of stalking has changed dramatically over the past several years with the development of social media like facebook, twitter and texting.

Baudendistel says while she applauds recently enacted measures strengthening laws against domestic violence and protections for victims, she said the actions are not likely to deter the crimes.

The CVAC director also offers some important information for anyone who feels they may be the target of a stalker.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. at News Radio 1290 WNBF.  More information on victims' services and crime prevention can be found through the Crime Victims Assistance Center at www.cvac.us or call (607) 723-3200.
