A Binghamton man is free after being found not guilty in a January stabbing at his home.

32 year old Darrell Van Patten had been charged with attempted murder and two counts of assault for stabbing 31 year old Andrew Towner who came into his Homer Street home in what was described as a botched drug deal.

The defense successfully argued Van Patten was defending his home and family when he stabbed Towner in the head and back with a knife.

Towner spent several days in the hospital with critical injuries following the stabbing.
