Spring Opening Eyed for Binghamton High-Tech Incubator

The $19 million Southern Tier High Technology Incubator facility in downtown Binghamton is expected to open within the next several months.

The project is being built as part of a partnership that includes Binghamton University and SUNY Broome Community College.

University President Harvey Stenger said construction on the complex is "almost done."

Windows in the building were recently installed. Workers now are focusing on the interior with painting and flooring work.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Stenger said the final siding has yet to be installed on the exterior of the complex.

Although the outside of the structure now is a bright blue, Stenger said the completed exterior will be "quite impressive" featuring a dark grey finish with some accent colors.

Stenger said the opening of the facility now is anticipated around April or May.

Companies are being recruited for the incubator. Stenger said there's a "long list of potential first-tier tenants" to move into the facility next summer.

The 35,000-square-foot complex is located at Hawley and Carroll streets, two blocks east of the Binghamton Governmental Plaza.
