Tips from the public have resulted in the arrest of a man believed to have stolen proceeds from a Mother’s Day Fundraiser at the Candor Emergency Medical Services building.

Tioga County Sheriff’s officials say 52 year old Daniel Merrill of Spencer is charged with felony counts of burglary and grand larceny, accused of forcibly entering the EMS building in the early morning hours of May 11, following the chicken barbeque held the day before, and stealing about $2,000 that had been raised to help Candor EMS improve equipment.

49 year old Tracy Jordan of Candor, who was with Merrill, was found to be wanted by the Tioga County Family court and Elmira Police.

Sheriff’s officials say the pair was located in the City of Ithaca with the help of Ithaca Police.

Merrill is being held in the Tioga County Jail without bail.

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office had provided surveillance photos taken during the burglary to the media and posted the pictures on social media.
