More Federal aid is being allocated for communities in New York State that have been impacted by violent storms over the past several years.

Over $1.7 billion is being allocated to areas in New York State devastated not only by the most recent storm, Superstorm Sandy, but also Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee that destroyed millions of dollars worth of property in the Southern Tier in 2011.

Officials say Binghamton could get up to $3 million with Vestal, Johnson City, the Town of Union and Conklin eligible for up to $5.4 million.  In Tioga County, Nichols and Owego could get up to $4.4 million.

The money is being allocated under the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery program.
