The Binghamton-area Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes is being held at the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City November 4th.

Speaking on the October 27th edition of the Southern Tier Close Up, airing Saturday afternoons at 12:10 on WNBF, Step Out Walks Manager for the American Diabetes Association of Central New York and the Southern Tier, Kris Alexich and Dave DuBrava, who is living with Type One Diabete, said the fund-raising walks not only raise money for research and support programs but also educate and raise awareness about the disease.

Alexich says money raised locally stays in the region.

DuBrava, a very fit, athletic young man, meanwhile, described the shock of being diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes while a student at Broome Community College and the struggles he's faced managing the disease.

The November 4th walk starts with registration at 7 a.m.  Walkers can sign up in advance or at the walk.

For more information, call Alexich at 1-315-438-8687, extension 3665 or go the A.D.A. website at www.diabetes.org/stnysetpout.
