New York State Assemblyman Clifford Crouch says he’s pleased that Governor Andrew Cuomo included $50 million in his budget proposal to support New York's agriculture industry.

The Bainbridge Republican says economic development funding will also greatly benefit the region.

Crouch says money is also in the budget for several transportation projects including for the Binghamton rail yard to improve upstate rail service.

As for the economic development competition pitting 7 regions in the state against each other for the chance at $500 million in funding for three winners, Binghamton Mayor Richard David is optimistic and says Binghamton is expected to be a focal point and work will be getting under way to put together a winning proposal.

State Senator Thomas Libous (R Binghamton) said he liked some of the ideas the Governor mentioned like cutting property taxes but he will be taking some time in reviewing the budget proposal.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo (D Endwell) called the Governor's plans 'ambitious' and said many components add up to something very positive for the area.

The state legislature now begins its work in reviewing the budget plan ahead of the April first deadline.
