Police Memorial Week is underway in the Southern Tier.

Events kicked off April 28th with a candlelight service at Sarah Jane Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Johnson City.  A candle was lit for each of the local police officers who have died in the line of duty over the years and a roll call of the officers' names was read.

Other activities this week include a motorcade of police vehicles, a memorial breakfast April 30th, the annual law enforcement golf tournament May 1st and displays set up by several agencies at the Oakdale Mall May 2nd through the 4th.

The Southern Tier observance of Police Memorial Week traditional preceeds the national observance, freeing local officers to travel to Washington D.C.  for memorial activities there.
