The American Heart Association honored volunteers, businesses and participants in the recent Heart Walk that was held on Saturday, May 3rd at Binghamton University .  At a  reception held last night at the Terra Cotta in Binghamton a number of awards were presented.

The American Heart Association Lifetime Champion Award was presented to Dan Correll.  Correll, a long-time Binghamton Police officer has been a dedicated advocate of the AHA.  He has been the lead organizer for the Heart Cup which is held annually in conjunction with the Binghamton Senators.  The game features the Binghamton Police Department versus the Binghamton Fire Department in a hockey game at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.  Correll also participates in numerous other events to benefit the  AHA.  He is  a heart and stroke survivor.

Joe Reagan earned top individual walker honors by raising $2,688.  UHS was the team winner by raising $16,455.  They had over 250 registered walkers participate in the Heart Walk.  Lourdes was right behind in second place with $13,005 raised.

Sonia Galan was honored as the American Heart Association Volunteer of the Year.  Sonia coordinated a number of volunteer activities and worked closely with staff to make sure the logistics of the Heart Walk  functioned effectively.

Over 1,250 walkers participated in the 2014 Heart Walk.  Better than $200,000 was raised to fight heart disease and stroke.
