State funds are being made available to help make Southern Tier buildings more energy efficient.

Euphemia Martin is director of the regional energy efficiency program supported by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. She said the initiative helps area residents, not-for-profit groups and small business owners.

Martin said grants and low-interest rate loans are being offered to assist in covering costs to make properties more energy efficient. She said the program has helped hundreds in the region to save on their utility bills.

Free energy audits are provided to those who express an interest in the program.

Grants of up to $5,000 are available for single-family homes. For four-unit apartment houses, grants of up to $10,000 are available.

Martin said those interested in scheduling an energy audit or those seeking more information may contact her office at 607.723.0110.
