68 years after he passed away, a local composer finally has a marker on his grave.

The Maine Community Band, Vestal Community Band and Kirby Band dedicated the marker at the grave of Getty Huffine at Riverhurst Cemetery in the Town of Union.

The dedication on August 25 also marked what would have been Huffine’s 126 birthday.

The composer worked for Endicott Johnson Shoes and wrote marches that were popular in the early 1900s.

One local piece was the The IBM March

Members of the Maine Community Band were surprised to learn there was no grave marker for Huffine and undertook the project to buy one.
