Broome County Historian Gerald Smith is featured on the October 6 edition of the weekly, local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up as the Broome County Historical Society prepares to celebrate 100 years in 2019.

The always-entertaining Smith details some of the events planned to mark the occasion as well as explaining how the group began and changed over the years.

Smith, who is also an author and teaches a course on history at SUNY Broome Community College observes that interest in history seems to peak at a certain age for people and the Historical Society at times has been in danger of folding.

While Gerry is often teased about being a human history reference book, he finds himself stumped on the program in a little impromptu history audio game.  See if you can identify the sound from the past on Southern Tier Close Up Saturday at 12:10 p.m. on WNBF!
