Women recovering from addiction will soon have a new place to stay to aid them in getting back on their feet while not having to leave their children for an extended period of time.

The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services has awarded $3.6 million to Fairview Recovery Services to build a new community residence for women, with units also dedicated to mothers and their children.

Officials say many times, women who have children put off or turn down treatment because they don’t want to leave their kids.

The 18-bed expansion is to be completed next summer.

New Yorkers in need of help for their addiction can call the New York State HOPEline, 24 hours a day at 1-877-8-HOPENY (1-877-846-7369) to find a substance use disorder treatment provider close to where they live.
