A Chenango County man is expected to be sentenced in April to five years in jail and five years probation for killing another man a little over a year ago.

30 year old Kyle Whitfield of Smithville pleaded guilty to manslaughter for stabbing 33 year old James Button Junior of Greene four times with a folding pocket knife March 3 of last year.

Authorities were first called to Whitfield’s property on a trespassing call, then, a second call was made to report a stabbing.

Investigators say they two men knew each other and worked together at Raymond Corporation in Greene.

Whitfield had originally been charged with murder but indicted on several counts of manslaughter and assault.

Sentencing is set for April 24.
