Two people have been taken to the hospital following a fire in a two story house in Smithville. 

Chenango County Emergency Services officials say at least one of the two people jumped from a second story as a house on State Highway 220 was reported on fire shortly before 2 a.m. February 12.

Fire Crews from four departments spent over two hours on the scene battling the cold as well as the flames.

A school bus from the Greene Central School District was brought in as a warming station for firefighters from Smithville, Greene, Oxford, McDonough and Triangle.

New York State Police and fire investigators were also working at the scene along with several ambulance companies.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

One  resident was transported to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City and the other was taken to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.
