Seven Indicted in Broome Heroin Distribution Case

A Broome County grand jury has indicted seven people in connection with a suspected heroin-selling ring.

Four of those indicted face a felony count of operating as a major trafficker.

Authorities say the distribution organization was directed by 38-year-old Devon Johnson. Police from several agencies took the suspects into custody late last month.

Officials say the ring was shut down following a year-long investigation. They say the operation was selling thousands of dollars worth of heroin each month.

Johnson, the purported leader of the operation, was indicted on the "major trafficker" charge. He also faces counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance and enterprise corruption.

Also named in the indictment handed up on Friday are 44-year-old Maurice Rollins, 32-year-old Ferris Brown and 37-year-old Shawn Perry. The other defendants are 57-year-old Andrew Savo, 54-year-old Mary Peters and 30-year-old Brandon Gagnier.
