The funeral for Owego Fire Department Captain Matthew Porcari is to be held this weekend.

The 34-year-old Porcari died of injuries sustained while fighting a house fire in Newark Valley.

Fire department officials say calling hours will be held at the Owego Middle School gymnasium on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

The funeral is planned for Sunday at 2 p.m. at the school.

A reception is to be held after the service in the school cafeteria.

Officials say the procession from the middle school to the funeral home will be limited to family members, Owego Fire Department members and to agencies that have been invited.

28-year-old Owego fire lieutenant Daniel Gavin was injured in Monday night’s fire on Chamberlain Road. He was released from a Syracuse hospital Tuesday.

Fire investigators have ruled the blaze accidental. They traced the fire to electrical wiring in a storage shed. The fire spread from the shed to the house and quickly engulfed the structure.

The residents of the home were outside when firefighters arrived.
