The American Cancer Society and the Cancer Action Network are warning the budget battle in Washington that has resulted in sweeping spending cuts could deny hundreds of women in New York life-saving cancer screenings.

The groups say over 1,600 free breast and cervical cancer screenings for women without health insurance could fall victim to the cuts unless funding is restored.

Officials say the problem could also be compounded by additional funding cuts being considered on the state level.
