The ads are wrong. New York State is not business-friendly.

That’s the word from the Southern Tier’s new, New York State Senator, Fred Akshar.

The Republican toured Binghamton Precast & Supply Corporation in Port Dickinson Friday, January 29 and announced a three-pronged proposal for helping small businesses in the state.

Akshar says his Job Revitalization Act would first reduce the rate for small businesses or farms that pay taxes as personal income, capping the business income tax rate for businesses making less than $500,000 a year and reducing the rate for those making less than $600,000 a year.

The second part of the proposal would repeal an energy surcharge and the third portion would create a STAR Property Tax program for businesses that is similar to what is currently offered homeowners, giving relief for school property taxes.

Akshar says the state is still over-regulating and over-taxing businesses, driving them out of New York.
