New York State Senator Thomas Libous of Binghamton is to appear in Federal Court in White Plains July 13 to face one charge of making a false statement to the FBI.

The Republican is accused of lying to federal authorities when they asked if he used his political influence to land a job at a downstate law firm for his son.

Libous denies the accusations.

A motion to have proceedings moved upstate has been denied.  The judge ruled that a change of venue for convenience was not acceptable.

Libous’ son, Matthew was convicted in January on three counts of filing false income tax returns and is to be sentenced April 29.
