New York State Senator Thomas Libous of Binghamton is asking the New York State Gaming Commission’s appointed Gaming Facility Location Board and the Governor to reconsider the awarding of only three out of four possible casino licenses and giving the one designated for the Southern Tier to a development in the northern Finger Lakes off the Thruway and between Rochester and Syracuse.

Libous says he was stunned by the Board’s decision to deny a license to what he called “The real Southern Tier in Johnson City or Nichols.”

The Republican says: “The chosen Tyre site is closer to Canada than it is to Binghamton.”

Libous says the Board doesn’t need to pull their Tyre recommendation but the fourth possible license should go to either Broome or Tioga County, an area that really needs the economic boost and is what he called “The real Southern Tier.

Libous says the original casino legislation had allowed up to two licenses in each region.

He also points out the state has no financial risk since the private investment is solely funding developments.
