Scrap Metal Sales Benefit the American Red Cross

Sales of scrap metal in the region could benefit the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross for several months.

Ben Weitsman and Son recycling says customers at their Binghamton and Owego operations bringing in metal for sale can ask that their payment be directed to the Red Cross through the ‘Metal for the Mission’ project until June.

Red Cross officials say all proceeds will stay in Central New York and help the agency’s disaster response operations, which include offering assistance in the aftermath of house fires, which are more prevalent in the colder months.

Weitsman and Son is also donating $25,000 dollars to the Red Cross.
