The Binghamton University baseball team hosted its 11th Annual Scout Day at BU's new baseball complex yesterday.  Over a dozen scouts from Major League Baseball teams watched as the Bearcats showcased their skills.  Players were timed in the 60-yard dash and were graded on their hitting, fielding and throwing abilities.

Scouts were on a fact-finding mission to evaluate talent and get an idea of what players to keep an eye on when Spring rolls around.  A number of Binghamton Bearcats have been able to sign professional contracts over the past decade including current Minnesota Twins pitcher Scott Diamond.  In all 17 Bearcats have signed pro deals over the last seven years.  Murphy Smith, a former America East Pitcher of the Year was a Double-A All-Star in the Oakland Athletics organization, and last season's top pitcher Mike Augliera had a solid summer with the Boston Red Sox Single-A affiliate.

Perennial contenders for the America East Championship, the Bearcats will finish the brief Fall season in a couple of weeks.  Binghamton opens the 2013 campaign on February 22 at James Madison.
