For 18 holes Scott McCarron and Kevin Sutherland dueled as well as anyone could ever hope to see.  In the end on the final hole McCarron made a remarkable recovery after his tee shot went wide right and ended up 15 feet past trees lining the fairway. His second shot not only put him on the green but set the stage for a tournament-winning birdie putt to give him the Dick's Open by one shot over Sutherland.

McCarron finished 20-under par while Sutherland ended his day one shot short at 19-under par.  McCarron earns the $300,000 first place prize check.  His 20-under total to finish at 196 is the second-lowest score in tournament history.  Lonnie Nielson carded a 21-under-par total in when he won the event in 2009.

The Dick's Sporting Goods Open Championship gives him his third win this season.  It also puts him in second place in the Charles Schwab Cup standings.

Sutherland trailed by two strokes heading to the ninth hole.  He nailed his approach shot on the par four number nine hole to tie McCarron and set the stage for the exciting down-to-the-wire finish.  He has now finished in the Top-10 eleven times so far this season.

Horseheads resident Joey Sindelar had his best tournament of the season finishing in a tie for third place at 13-under.  John Daly also tied for third after scoring a pair of eagles in the third round to finish at 13-under.
