Chenango Forks School District officials say they are outraged that the driver of a Sport Utility Vehicle almost hit a student while passing a stopped school bus in the Town of Fenton October 4.

Video from the bus shows the vehicle, that appears to be driven by a man in his 20s with blonde hair, going onto the right shoulder to pass a vehicle directly behind the bus then passing the bus just as the 15 year old girl was about to step off the bottom step.

The girl said it was a good thing her backpack snagged on the rail as she was getting off the bus, or she would have been hit by the vehicle that police estimated was probably going about 30 miles an hour as it swerved pass the other vehicle and the bus that had lights flashing and the stop sign arm deployed.

New York State Police are looking for the driver of the vehicle of the black Subaru Crosstrek on Route 369 at around 6:30 p.m.

Chenango Forks officials say they had five reports in May of vehicles illegally passing stopped buses.

Anyone with information on this or similar incidents is asked to contact New York State Police at (607) 775-1241.
