New York State Police say a Schenevus man fought with them when they tried to arrest him Thursday evening in an alleged assault.

Troopers were called to a home on Johnson Road at 8:40 p.m. for a report of a dispute between a father and his son.

Authorities say 42 year old Shannon Suydam is accused of punching his 18 year old son in the face, causing an injury.

The incident reportedly happened in front of a three year old child.

Troopers say Suydam struggled with them as they tried to take him into custody and was subdued with pepper spray.

Suydam is charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest.

He was sent to the Delaware County Jail on $2,500 bail.
