A member of the Binghamton School Board is setting his sights on City Hall.

Republican Thomas Scanlon has announced he is running for the 7th District Binghamton City Council seat vacated by former Councilman, Democrat Bill Berg.

Berg stepped down after he was arrested for obstructing governmental administration, allegedly trying to broker a deal for financial support for his campaign from a contractor with an interest in contract awards for work on the Binghamton/Johnson City Joint Sewage Treatment Plant.

Scanlon is employed by Broome Bituminous Products in Vestal and has been a member of the Binghamton City School District Board of Education since 2008.

Scanlon lost to berg in last year’s City Council race.
