Delaware County Sheriff’s officials are warning about another fraud where scammers are attempting to obtain bank account information.

Officials say this time, a letter is convincingly disguised as from an official agency as it is on U.S. Department of Transportation letterhead.

Investigators say anyone receiving the letter should not respond to the ‘Senior Procurement Officer’ request for a contractor or potential contractor to register their company’s financial information on a form entitled ‘Authorization to Release Financial Information.’

The Sheriff’s Office says the Department of Transportation does not request financial information from contractors wishing to submit a bid, proposal or quote.

Anyone with questions about procurement can contact the real Office of the Senior Procurement Executive at (202) 366-4263.  Suspected fraudulent requests can be reported to the DOT at 800-424-9071.
