The end of Rex Ryan's stay as head coach of the Buffalo Bills came yesterday.  Ownership and upper management made the morning announcement.  Ryan coached one game short of two seasons with the Bills and ended with a 15-16 record.  This season his team stands at 7-8 with one game to go against the New York Jets this weekend.  Offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn becomes the interim head coach for that game.

Ryan's brother Rob was also fired as the team's assistant head coach and defensive specialist.  Buffalo was knocked out of playoff contention over the weekend with a loss to the Miami Dolphins.  With that loss the Bills extend the NFL's longest active playoff drought.  Buffalo has not appeared in a post-season game for 17 straight seasons.
