The Coal House 5K Run for Your Heart helped raise money for the American Heart Association April 19.

76 participants took part in the race at the Vestal Rail Trail.  It was the second big fund-raising event to benefit the American Heart Association in the past two weeks.

April 12 over $220,000 was raised in the annual Southern Tier Heart Walk.

Money raised from the April 19 run is added into the Heart Walk total with donations still coming .

The Coal House 5K Run for Your Heart attracted runners of various ages including teens and senior citizens.

Matt Mushalla posted the best overall time to capture first place finishing in a time of 19:57.  James Trujillo captured second place with a time of 20:20. Rich Pichura was third posting a finishing time of 20:33.

The best women's time was turned in by Christa Denmon.  She ran the 5K course in a time of 22:11.  In second place with a time of 25:47 was Chelsea Hinman.  Finishing third in women's competition was Jenna Rosenberg with a post of 26:27.

Mark Mushalla served as the race director.  The race started and finished at the Coal House at the beginning of the Vestal Rail Trail.
