Rumble Ponies Welcome Luis Rojas as Manager

When the Binghamton Rumble Ponies open their 2017 season on Thursday night in New Hampshire at 6:35 (6:20 PM on News Radio 1290 WNBF) there will be a new field manager at the helm. His name is Luis Rojas.  Pedro Lopez served as the club's skipper for the past five seasons before moving to Triple-A and Las Vegas this year.

Rojas has already opened plenty of eyes in professional baseball. He hails from the Dominican Republic and played seven years of pro baseball with three different organizations before moving into a manager's role.  He was the manager of the New York Mets' Class A affiliate in St. Lucie the past two seasons and debuts at the Double-A level with Binghamton.  He has accomplished all this at the age of 25.  He is younger than many of the players on the Binghamton roster.

Despite his youth Rojas is highly regarded in the Met's organization and grew up in a baseball family.  His father was Felipe Alou, a three-time Major League All-Star and manager of the Montreal Expos and San Francisco Giants. Plus, his uncles Mateo (Matty) and Jesus also played in the Major Leagues.
