Officials have not said what caused a two vehicle crash on Route 17 in Apalachin October 5 that closed the highway for hours.

A tractor trailer reportedly collided with a New York State Department of Transportation maintenance truck shortly before 9 a.m. and both directions of Route 17 were closed for a time as emergency responders headed to the scene.

There had been reports of injuries but the nature and severity of those injuries have not been disclosed by authorities.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation also responded to the scene as fluids had reportedly leaked from the tractor trailer.

Traffic in the area was diverted at Apalachin and allowed to re-enter Route 17 at Exit 67 in Vestal.
