It’s finally a smooth ride on Riverside Drive.

City of Binghamton Officials announced at 4:25 p.m. October 30 that the detours on the entire length of Riverside Drive are over and the road is reopened.

There could, however, still be some short-term lane closures while final storm sewer work is underway and large concrete drainage structures and heavy equipment can be seen parked on some side streets on the west end of the road.

A final top coat is also to be applied to the roadway in the spring.

The second phase of the Riverside reconstruction cost $3.1 million and included full-depth road reconstruction as well as new water, sewer and sanitary lines and new curbs from Beethoven Street to the Johnson City line.

The first phase, which rehabilitated the road from Front Street to Beethoven Street, cost $2.4 million.
