Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend with a return to Standard Time.

Residents are reminded to not only set their clocks back an hour before going to bed Saturday night, but it’s also a good time to change the batteries in smoke detectors, dust them out and test them.  Emergency Services officials also recommend that carbon monoxide detectors be checked.

Fire officials say, with the cold weather and the start of this year’s heating season, house fires are a big worry.

Many times homeowners procrastinate having furnaces and chimneys maintained and working smoke detectors may become a final system that could save lives.
