The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has extended a temporary waiver on the hours of service restrictions regarding the delivery of oil and propane for home heating systems.

PennDOT says the extension is in reaction to the prolonged harsh winter conditions.

Normally, drivers have to take a rest period after 11 hours behind the wheel.  The waiver lengthens that to 14 hours.

Exemption is also granted from a rule that requires drivers to stop driving after 60 hours over a period of seven days or 70 hours over a period of eight days.

PennDOT says the original waiver was to expire January 25. The exemptions are now extended through February 11 or until emergency conditions end.
