Patrick Sclafani of the United States General Services Administration said the $1.1 million repair and replacement project was awarded to C&D Waterproofing Corporation of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.

Sclafani said all work is expected to be completed by next July.

According to a building history from the General Services Administration, the structure was completed in 1935. It originally was called the U.S. Post Office and Courthouse.

The federal government acquired the property for the building in 1916 for $100,000. Planning for the project was put on hold because of World War I.

Downtown post office operations moved to a newly-constructed building four blocks east of the site in 1967.

The Federal Building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
