The First Ward Action Council is coordinating the work on several properties on Front Street north of Winding Way. Two houses on Meadow Street and Spring Forest Avenue also are being rehabilitated.

Council executive director Jerry Willard said workers on Friday were installing decorative trim on two of the Front Street structures.

Willard said the first two houses could be ready for occupancy as soon as next month. He said all of the renovations should be completed by the end of summer.

The council has been receiving calls from people inquiring about the availability of apartments in the buildings. Willard said a flier providing details about the housing will be distributed around Broome County soon.

Willard said applications for the apartments will be accepted soon, perhaps by the end of the month.

In recent months, construction crews have worked to gut and restore the dilapidated structures. The houses were built in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
