March is quickly passing, but not before the community has a chance to thank the staff and volunteers of the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross that serves four counties in the region during Red Cross Month.

Appearing on the March 22 edition of the local weekly public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, chapter director Shelley Bierwiller says one high point of the of the month so far has been showcasing a new, free app. available for smart phones that can alert residents to everything from flash flooding to wildfires via their mobile devices any time of the day or night.

Bierwiller also thanks the dozens of volunteers who are there all the time to help their community and keep the Southern Tier Chapter running.

Other things coming up for the Red Cross include the 5th annual recognition of local heroes that could include first responders and care givers and even animal rescue representatives.

Wendy's Restaurants are also marking Red Cross Month by donating a portion of their profits on the 25th to local disaster response.
