Hurricane season is underway and the Twin Tiers has been experiencing some strong storms and possible flash flooding. Just some of the events that can lead to disaster.

Speaking on the June 29th edition of the weekly local public affairs show, Southern Tier Close Up, Community Chapter Executive for the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross, Shelley Bierwiler said now is a good time to double-check your family's disaster preparedness plans and kits.

Bierwiler says everyone should be ready to act quickly, whether it be in reaction to a natural disaster or other events such as fires.

The American Red Cross can help provide a check list of things that should be in a disaster kit to help all family members, even pets, cope with an emergency.
